Since the 1st July, it is now state law for all dogs and cats to be registered with your local council. So, as council rolls out its new animal management plan we thought it would be a good opportunity to clarify some of the new local laws and remind the community of the importance of desexing and microchipping your pet.
As well as revenue raising, the new laws are designed to encourage responsible pet ownership, with an emphasis on identifying pets using microchips and reducing the amount of unwanted animals born by encouraging desexing. As mentioned in previous critter chats, we are all for desexing and microchipping of your pets. Microchips, in particular, means we can identify and re-unite easily and quickly the animals brought into the clinic injured or as strays.
To offset some of the costs of this new regulation Gladstone Regional Council will issue a $15 voucher to owners of un-desexed and another $15 voucher for un-microchipped animals at the time of registration. This voucher should be presented at the time of desexing or microchipping to your vet. We will honour vouchers at both Agnes Water clinic and our Rosedale clinic.
We have had lots of enquiries about the changes, so I hope this clears a few things up. Should you have any further questions regarding these new regulations or questions on the voucher system please contact the RTC or local council office who should be more than happy to help you.
