Late last year when Mt Maria and surrounding areas were engulfed in fires Sonia and Chris Coopers’ beloved Husky x Border Collie Jaffa, in a panic, decided to escape the heat and head for the hills On discovering their best mate had vanished the family commenced a thorough search of the area but to no avail.
After a sad week of searching for Jaffa, the Cooper’s had all but given up hope of ever finding her when a phone call from a Vet clinic in Bundaberg announced thrilling news that Jaffa had turned up in Bundaberg, safe and well and only a little underweight.
So the story goes….Jaffa had travelled cross country from Mt Maria far as Winfield, through bush, scrub and somehow crossing the baffle creek (although not surprisingly with her love of water!!). A farming family in Winfield were busily carrying out their daily jobs when an exhausted Jaffa arrived at their doorstep. After a feed and water they contacted a Bundaberg Veterinary clinic who suggested they bring her in to ascertain if she was microchipped SHE WAS!! Jaffa was finally reunited with Sonia and Chris (and the furry members of her family) a week after she had disappeared.
